On 23 April 2025 the Renevlyn Development Initiative (RDI) with support from Development Gateway organised a training on Tobacco Control and the Tobacco Control Data Initiative (TCDI).
The training was for journalists in the print, electronic and online genre in the Democratic Republic of Congo who are interested in upscaling their tobacco control and public health reporting.
Notable speakers at the virtual event included Prof Patrick Shamba – Technical Advisor, TCDI Program, DRC, Caleb Ayong – founder Vital Voices for Africa (VVA), Achieng Otieno – founder, Being Africa, Oluchi Joy Robert – a UK-based tobacco control expert and Philip Jakpor, executive director of RDI, the convening organisation.
Topics discussed included The Tobacco Control Landscape in the DRC, Using Data to Make Tobacco Stories Relevant, How the Industry Targets Young People, Tobacco and Conflict, and Development Gateway’s TCDI.
