On Tuesday 24 September 2024, RDI organised a one-day virtual training on Women and Extractives Journalism Training targeting 15 female Nigerian journalists from reputable national news organisations in the country. The participants interacted and heard from women leaders and activists in the environment and extractives space in the Afro region who introduced them to issues affecting women in communities hosting oil and solid mineral projects as well as climate change.
The journalists came from key national news organisations comprising print, electronic and the online genre. The trainers included Laura Furones, senior advisor on environmental and land rights defenders at Global Witness, Ebere Ekeopara a journalist and environmental advocate, Abasiama Cyril of Policy Alert and Hauwa Mustapha of Tubali Development Initiative .
